The People’s Map
Developed with sound artist Arlo Anwin, the People’s Map is an audio-visual portrait of the town, built from field recordings, spoken memories, and composed soundscapes gathered from all across Bodmin.
“It’s a map that doesn’t just show you where Bodmin is, it show you how it feels”
Arlo took to the streets, collecting sounds and stories from local residents. From the scrape of skateboards in the park to the chatter of market stalls, from whispered memories to birdsong in the churchyard, the sound of Bodmin slowly began to emerge.
Workshops taught people how to capture their own field recordings using just a smartphone, giving residents the tools to contribute directly to the sonic picture.
Meanwhile, Arlo combined these recordings with composed music and visual animations to build an immersive digital map - a journey through Bodmin not by road or postcode, but by memory, sound, and sensation.
