Record
While working as a photographer, George Ellis captured the people and happenings of Bodmin. At his no.4 St Nicholas Street address, he also sold records under the name ‘Bodmin Music Depot’ and in his spare time he was a keen pianist and singer.
The meticulous ledgers he kept for his photos provide valuable context with dates, names and even newspaper clippings to help us understand more about the people pictured.
You could sum up Ellis’ life with the word ‘Record’ - as a collection of information, or as a musical entity. Both are ways we save and share stories for the future, making us wonder: how do we leave our mark? What will our zines tell future generations about the way we lived, created, and connected?
